WE ARE BASED IN THE POWER OF OUR ASSEMBLIES

As a community, our power exists in banding together. In our own neighbourhood, people countinue to pay record high rents and are threatened with evictions despite this new wave and new job losses. People of all ages, abilities, and living situations, face difficulties in getting safe access to groceries, goods, and human company.

It’s been a great year for the Citizens’ Committee.

Our food bank moved to a weekly service, with 40 to 70 weekly users. We started up our Solidarity Rooftop and led frequent workshops on urban agriculture.

Our actions around the Royal Vic included initiating a mass grassroots public consultation, a protest, and decolonial solidarity actions under our new Kahnistensera Solidarity Committee, including a candlelight march and pots and pans rally.

Several members of the committee formed our allied tenants’ union which is now mobilizing tenants in TWO buildings across Milton-Parc (public news to hopefully come soon!). The union meets regularly in our new community building, 3516 Parc.

Our other activities included popular education through tours of the neighbourhood, starting up a community library committee, and engaging in building a co-op in the old Bar des Pins.

The Citizens’ Committee This Week

There is a General Meeting, open to all, planned for next Sunday, March 24, 1pm. Use this link to access the meeting. The discussion will focus on ongoing committee work and restructuring.

Our Solidarity Committee has a EMAIL BLAST we’ve coordinated to keep up the pressure on McGill and the SQI regarding its repurposing of the Royal Vic. We’ve got an email template programmmed to be sent off easily.

The tenants’ union has a meeting this Saturday, 3pm. Use this link to join.

In a valuable partnership with SEIZE, we are developing plans at an increasing pace for a community co-op at the old Bar des Pins. Contact us to participate.

As always the food bank will be running this Friday, 6-8pm at the Lutheran Church.
Check out our Facebook page for our most recent photos and announcements, including an analysis of rising rents across Montreal and the Plateau.
