Decolonize the Royal Vic: EMAIL BLAST of McGill & the Government

March 10th, 2022

From the beginning the government and McGill have been carrying out an unaccountable and unpopular project for the Royal Vic, a site 33 acres large.

For our surrounding communities, there was a lack of any public consultations prior to the transfer of a large chunk of the site to McGill and prior to the public presentation of plans.

For people of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation, this large chunk of decomissioned land was NOT offered over for traditional stewardship to indigenous people. The government has ignored the protests of the Kahnistensera Kanien’kehá:ka (“Mohawk Mothers”) over land that may have unmarked graves. While people who are Inuit sleep on the street not far from McGill, the government has also ignored demands for a return of stewardship despite some plans of the Kahnistensera to begin reopening the site for housing.

Worse still, police have responded violently to the Kahnistensera.

It is time to let the government know that you support the demands of the Kahnistensera. Send an email, and make sure to attend the upcoming info session, this Friday at 7:30 at l’Achoppe on the strugle of the Kahnistensera.
